Internal Error 2908 dot net framework

Internal Error 2908 in dot net framework 1.1

Issue: .NET Framework 1.1 would not install.

I would get a message saying "Internal Error 2908″.

Fix:
I had .NET 1.1 installed before. Part of it remained on the system. I had to manually delete this file /rename this file:
C:\Windows\System32\mscoree.dll

Cause: .NET uses the MSCOREE.DLL file to see if .NET is already installed.
